Here in Chiang Mai

Well, we arrived in Chiang Mai and checked into our hotel at about 3pm. It's now 5:30, and we're getting ready to go out with Tutu to visit the orphanage. They have planned a dinner for us, and she asked us not to eat. Earlier, she had mentioned that the children had been frying up crickets to eat. I hope the two statements aren't closely related. I'm really hungry, but I'm not quite sure I'm up for bugs tonight.

I had a really nice, long post about our journey to Siem Reap, but it's on my laptop, and will have to wait until I can find a connection. The hotel is very nice, and has a small internet cafe. I just can't seem to get my laptop hooked up.

Chiang Mai seems to be as beautiful as I've always heard, but I haven't had a chance to see much of the city; our hotel is on a relatively non-descript street that I haven't yet located on the map. There are beautiful, wooded mountains, and the weather seems to be similar to Cambodia. I think I'll like it here.

I'll try to give you more info soon.

Tomorrow we visit the Thai Cookery School. I can't wait.

Interesting! We can't wait to hear about Chiang Mai! Sounds beautiful! Did you eat crickets? If so how'd they taste! How is it different from Cambodia? Do the kids there like to do?

We keep praying!

Dear Miss Burby's class:

They didn't serve us crickets. But I would have tried them.

Chiang Mai, Thailand is very different from Cambodia. It is a very modern city, much like Columbus.

Chiang Mai has beautiful mountains and very nice buildings. I will try to send you some pictures later. The language is also different, but some of the words are the same.

The kids like to sing and play games and wrestle. When we got there, they were cooking skewers of meat over the fire. We at the meat with rice and a very, very spicy sauce. I am very full.

I am also very tired, so I will go to bed now. Good night, and thank you for praying!

Ahhh... Chiang Mai.... the name of the city brings back so many memories. Enjoy the beauty of the countryside and the people while you get the chance; it compares with none other.

Glad you are feeling better. We are praying for you.

just a note to say we're praying and to thank you for the updates-- we really enjoy them. [and, by the way, fried bugs aren't really all that bad.]

bless you!
